Appointments

Triage appointment system – Anima

We are unable to book GP appointments.  All patients requiring input from a GP will need to be triaged using Anima.  Dependent on your issue, once triage questions have been completed, your request will be added to the GP dashboard.  Our GPs assess each patient and decide on next steps (text message, face to face appt or telephone call).

However, there may be times when the patient can be referred to other agencies.  These include: Pharmacy First, GP Enhanced Access, Respiratory Hub. First Contact Physio or the Mental Health and Learning Disability Team.

If you require an appointment:

*         Anima triage Monday to Friday from 8am.

*         Telephone (01604 791002) Monday to Friday from 8am

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • by text

Appointments by phone or text can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner

About Your Appointment

  • One appointment is for one person. If you want another member of your family to see the doctor or nurse, please book a further appointment.
  • Appointments with a GP are for ten minutes in duration and it is unlikely the doctor will be able to deal with more than 1 problem
  • If attending the practice for a face to face appointment, please ensure that you have a face covering/mask.
  • Do not attend your appointment if you have any COVID-19 symptoms
  • If you would like a chaperone please speak to the doctor
  • If you need an interpreter please ask the receptionist to organise for you on booking your appointment

Telephone Consultations

At this unprecedented time, our Patient Navigators may ask you a series of questions concerning symptoms you may be experiencing. When making an appointment you may be asked if a telephone consultation with the doctor or nurse practitioner would be more helpful to you.  It is very important that we have your correct contact details. Please note that all calls are monitored and recorded for training purposes.

If you require urgent, on the day advice the duty doctor will deal with your call.  If you wish to speak with a particular doctor or nurse practitioner for non-urgent enquiries your request will be passed on to them to deal with when they are next on duty.  Please make this clear to the receptionist when leaving your message.

Late For Your Appointment

Please attend your appointment on time, if you are late you may not be seen. If you are not seen you will not be able to rearrange your appointment until the next working day-except in the event of an medical emergency that requires immediate attention.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

It is important that you inform the surgery if you are unable to attend your appointment; this will allow the appointment to be offered to another patient.  Persistent defaulters may be removed from the list

To cancel, call the surgery on (01604) 791002

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

If you are too ill to attend the surgery you may request a home visit. Whenever possible please telephone the surgery before 10:30am. You will be asked information about your illness so that the duty doctor can prioritise the home visits for the day.

Non-urgent advice: New Guidelines

There are new guidelines regarding Home Visits.  Patients who live outside the practice area will not be eligible for home visits carried out by the surgery.  They will be seen by another provider which is co-ordinated by NHS England via the 111 service.  This will be explained to you when registering at the practice.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, pharmacists can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • coughs
  • colds
  • sore throats
  • tummy trouble
  • aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.
